Biography Notes...

Born in Bangor, Maine, I grew up in Maine (Old Town, Newport, Island Falls, Fort Kent, Gardiner, Presque Isle, Orono, Old Town, Brewer, etc.) and went to the University of Maine (Orono) achieving my bachelors degree in Civil Engineering in 1972. I  became a Professional Engineer in July of 1976 and a Professional Surveyor in July of 1979. I operated my own Engineering firm (Herrick and Assoc.) from 1975 through 1979. I was the City Engineer for Tarpon Springs, Florida; City Engineer for Dunedin, Florida; and Manager of Engineering Construction in St. Petersburg, Florida. I am registered as an engineer in eight states. I have designed and monitored the construction of many subdivisions, mobile home parks, condominiums, roads, utilities, sewerage and water treatment plants, buildings, bridges and all sorts of civil engineering works.

Hobbies: Computers and Sailing. I have four networked computers. I have sailed the west coast of Florida from St. Petersburg to the Dry Tortugas and also sailed to Havana, Cuba on my own a 45 foot Hunter sailboat! Currently (end of 2010) I am retired, single and have no sailboat, though I have a 21 foot powerboat, a kayak, a rowboat, and a 2005 Harley Ultra Classic Super Glide motorcycle! I have been on 15 cruises, all over the Caribbean, and have traveled to France, Germany, Greece, Aruba, Abacos, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, and plan on going to Alaska and England in 2011 and 2012.

3/30/1972 Lanbanque Engineering

Pasco, County, Florida

Designer/Junior Engineer, I designed the master sewer, water, paving, drainage, and plat calculations for a 10 square mile project. I then prepared detailed plans for a 300-acre portion of the subdivision and detailed plans for 100-acre condominium project around a new 18 hole golf course. The detailed plans I prepared included the design of pipe sizes and slopes for all drainage basins, sewer line size and slopes, and designed the water main sizes. I designed the golf course irrigation system (including two 75 horsepower pump intakes from a large retention pond) and laid out the course in the field. In addition I prepared the plans and monitored the construction of a 4-lane bridge over the Anclote River. I was the inspector for the construction of the bridge: counting the blows for the pile driving - up to inspecting the final coating.
8/20/1973 Lloveras, Baur and Stephens

Clearwater, Florida

Engineer; Lloveras, Baur and Stevens; I was employed as an engineer to design sewer, water, drainage and paving projects for subdivisions, mobile homes, and other housing and commercial complexes. I was responsible to work with the clients and the municipalities and to do the calculations and plan preparation. The detailed plans I prepared included the design of pipe sizes and slopes for all drainage areas, detention pond sizing, sewer lines size and slopes, and the water main sizes. I was the first person to have completed a full City of Clearwater Impact Study. I traveled to Tallahassee to work with the Florida Department of Environmental regulation and invented the idea of retaining the runoff from a one inch rainfall as a water quality solution. This solution has been effect ever since and has been adopted by several states!
8/16/1976 Deltona Corp

Miami, Florida

Permitting Engineer; Deltona Corporation; employed as an engineer to get State permits for eight large projects (City of Deltona, Spring Hill, etc.). In addition I prepared the complete detailed plans including the design of pipe sizes and slopes for all drainage areas, detention pond sizing, sewer lines size and slopes, and the water main sizes for a development on an peninsula in Rotunda. I traveled weekly to the projects to collect the data necessary for all permitting and dredging. I did a backwater drainage analysis for the 3000 acre Deltona drainage basin and found that many existing pipes were undersized, and were sloped in the wrong direction.
1/1/1977 Herrick & Associates

Palm Harbor, Florida

Owner, engineer and surveyor; Herrick & Associates; I owned and operated my own engineering and surveying firm designing sewage treatment plants, sewer, water, drainage and paving systems for commercial and residential projects. I worked with a company who was constructing sewage treatment plants. They hired me to do all of the design of the treatment plants, including aeration basins, settling basins, sludge handling and percolation pond design. I also obtained the permits for the treatment systems. The detailed plans I prepared for residential and commercial included the design of pipe sizes and slopes for all drainage basin culverts, detention pond sizing, sewer lines size and slopes, and the water main sizes. I was subpoenaed and testified in court when one of my clients exceeded his property lines and removed dirt from his neighbor.
5/1/1980 Reynolds Smith & Hills

Tampa, Florida

Engineer; Reynolds Smith & Hills; designed sewer, water, drainage and paving projects for US Home. The company had a contract to do the engineering plans for the Southeast Region and hired me to aid the staff in creating final design drawings. The detailed plans I prepared included the design of pipe sizes and slopes for all drainage area culverts, detention pond sizing, sewer lines size and slopes, and the water main sizes. We created plans for many housing projects and obtained the permits for them.
9/1/1981 City of Tarpon Springs,

Florida

City Engineer, City of Tarpon Springs; as City Engineer, I designed sewer, water , paving, and drainage projects all over the city as needed. The detailed plans I prepared included the design of pipe sizes and slopes for all drainage area culverts, detention pond sizing, sewer lines size and slopes, and the water main sizes. We created plans for many housing projects, sidewalk projects, and drainage projects and obtained the permits for them. I obtained a $1.5 million grant to replace the sewer treatment plant and hired the Engineering firm to do the final design plans. I designed and implemented a plan to remove the old wells from service and replace them with county water service. I then had the water towers removed (one of which was about to collapse).
