Born in Charleston, Maine. Married Priscilla (Batchelder). Went to Syracuse University of Forestry for 3 years. Was in the Army, went to Europe on DDay +1 as an engineer building pontoons. Was wounded by shrapnel and spent months in a hospital trying to get his shoulder back in place. Received a Purple Heart. John took night courses at the School of Forestry at Syracuse University but had to stop due to the Depression. Became a carpenter building houses in Marblehead, Mass. Two daughters; Martha and Carol.
