David sent an e-mail:

We are here in Rockland and pictured below is one of the big reasons we
moved. Same e-mail address. We only have a zillion more boxes to unpack. All
six of us are settling in (David, Jean, Mark, Stephen, Brandy & Willie).

Dad and I went to the clubhouse for , got to talk to Sue, Dan, Del, and Amy. Everybody had a good day. The kids at Sue's were excited about seeing moose and partridge! Dan got to fly. Amy is about to fly to Seattle. Darrell talked with his kids. I am at "work" today (got to get going with my task!).

The judge refused to hear my case on my home! Oh well, just have to wait!

Donald asked me to be notified when I update this page, and thought others would like to be notified as well, so..

Click Here to include your e-mail address. I will collect the e-mails from there and send you an e-mail when I update.

Darrell, David and Amy have new addresses on the family data page!

I went to Jim's on Saturday to spread his father's ashes in the Gulf of Mexico. We could not go out though because the wind had been blowing from the north for several days and it had blown the water out of the bay where he keeps his boat! We played chess and then decided to try again in two weeks. Dad and I spent some time working on projects for the church, I made six more clackers and watched "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" again. It was fun to watch a second time. We will be going to the clubhouse for Thanksgiving dinner, then going up to Vermont for tow weeks over Christmas and New Years.

Note from Darrell:

A quick word about the kids. Justin is now stationed in New Mexico, after
completing his Air Force training to be a F-16 Crew Chief. He and his wife
Jody, and her daughter Brianna are now living with him out there. His
address isn't known yet but I will pass it on when I get it. Adam completed
National Guard basic training and is working at a clothing store in the
Mall. Tyler and Caleb are doing just fine. Tina and Tami busy with soccer
and cheerleading (in that order). Marilyn and I are having a great time,
living in our camper until the 30th when we can move into our new home. Hope
all is well with each of you!

I have made a petition to get my home back, wish me luck!

Message from Donald!

Hi everybody,
    I haven't written for a while but things are fine here on the west
coast.  I'm still going with Jeanne and we're doing a lot of fun things.
We've got tickets for the new Harry Potter movie on Saturday.  In February
we will be going to Florida to stay with Dad for five days (and fly my
glider at a flight park only 42 miles from Zephyrhills) and in April we'll
be going to Europe for a few weeks, exploring the Tuscany region in Italy
and spending a few days in London.  The kids are fine.  We're looking
forward to Amy and Darren moving to near Seattle.  We had a great visit
with Amy the other weekend.  We are also looking forward to Dad's trip to
the west coast again this spring.
    I've been flying when I can and I'll give another flying story for
those who are interested (3 pilots in the family!):  This last weekend I
went flying again in the Sierras.  November is near the end of the flying
season here in CA so none of my flying buddies were interested in going.
It was prefrontal though, and I had a feeling that it could be epic.  I
went on a Safari with about 6 new pilots, but just for Saturday instead of
the whole weekend.  The day was clear and I was sure conditions would be
poor because there were none of the cumis we like marking lift for us.
When we drove to launch at 4500' we found a strong south wind, to strong
for the newbies to fly.  Another more experienced pilot and I launched and
it turned out to be one of my best flights ever.  Lift was all over near
the mountain, but there seemed to be a good mix of ridge lift with some
strong broad thermals mixed in.  I went right up to around 5000' and played
along the ridge for a while.  After 1/2 hour the two of us found a thermal
that took us up to 6550' at over 900 fpm.  This is my personal best
altitude.  Over 6000' the air turned distinctly chilly, but I was dressed
for it.  I was able to explore some mountains I had never been to before
and I toyed with the idea of completely crossing the big valley, but the
mountains weren't well shaped for me to find lift with a south wind over on
the other side.  Of course there are costs to everything and after about 1
1/2 hour I was getting very queasy with air/altitude sickness and barfed
into my helmet.  Fortunately I hadn't eaten much.  After almost another
hour of 'sky-dancing' I started to get queasy again and I had some ringing
in my ears so I thought I had better call it a flight.  I landed 2 1/2
hours after my launch and I was so spent I could hardly lift my glider off
the LZ.  I wish I had felt better as I think I could have flown another
hour or so, the conditions were so good.  This was my longest mountain
flight yet, my longest beach flight was 2 hours.  The winds soon decreased
at launch and the new pilots and instructors flew down to join me.  None
got better than 15 min. so I was pleased to have the best flight of the
day.  Next time I will try some airsickness remedies before I try for a
long flight.  I need to work out some more to prepare for spring flying
too.
   All for now.  See you soon!

I thought Dave and Dan might enjoy these:

Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by US Air Force pilots and the maintenance crew's response.

Problem: "Left inside main tire almost needs replacement."
Reply: "Almost replaced left inside main tire."

Problem: "Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough."
Reply: "Auto-land not installed on this aircraft."

Problem: "Something loose in cockpit."
Reply: "Something tightened in cockpit."

Problem: "Evidence of hydraulic leak on right main landing gear."
Reply: "Evidence removed."

Problem: "Dead bugs on windshield."
Reply: "Live bugs on order."

Problem: "Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces 200 fpm descent."
Reply: "Cannot reproduce problem on ground."

Problem: "Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick."
Reply: "That's what they're there for."

Problem: "Number three engine missing."
Reply: "Engine found on right wing after brief search."

Dad gave me a great card this morning, it says:

For your birthday,
John,
which would you rather have --
a great father like me
or the finest boat
 in the world?

Then on the inside it says:

Whaddya mean,
power or sail?

Love, Dad

ANYWAY

People are often unreasonable, illogical,

and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, People may accuse you

of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some

false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,

people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone

could destroy overnight.

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,

they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,

people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,

and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis,

it is between you and God;

it was never between you and them anyway.
